Our Facilities

The Hope Foundation for
Retarded Children is a non-profit foundation dedicated to building
and operating Hope Village, which is located in Friendswood, Texas,
just south of Houston.
The Village, which opened in 1970, is located on 18 acres donated by
Louis and Hildegard Strey. |

|
Currently, we
have five separate homes each built in a different style to
resemble a neighborhood. The first of the five homes was opened
in 1970 and since that time four homes have been added. Home # 5
opened in 2002 and provides a higher level of care for those
Villagers requiring it. Each home is licensed by either the
Texas Department of Human Services or the Texas Department of
Family and Protective Services.
|
|
A new 14,000 square foot Developmental Center was opened in 2000. It
replaced the original one, which opened in 1972 in order to provide
job training and employment for residents and day program
participants from surrounding communities. |

|
The new building incorporates a new, expanded work program, Ceramics
manufacturing, a Gift Shop, a Tea Room and a large, fully equipped
kitchen. This was made possible with substantial capital grants from
the Fondren Foundation, the Brown Foundation, Houston Endowment,
Inc. and the William Stamps Farish Fund.
"We looked
at six other facilities and found we liked Hope Village far and
above all the others we visited."
